Achilles Problems FAQs
Q) Did I rupture my Achilles tendon?
A) The signs of a significant injury to the Achilles tendon are fairly prominent, which is helpful in diagnosing the nature of your injury. In most cases, a rupture involves severe pain and swelling near your heel, a popping or snapping sound at the time of the injury, an inability to stand up on the toes of the affected foot, and an inability to push the injured foot downward.
A rupture to the Achilles can happen if you are involved in high impact athletic activities, but it can also occur by simply stepping in a hole or landing wrong during a fall. An injury like this requires immediate treatment, which may involve a walking boot or cast, surgical repair of the tendon, and rehabilitation with physical therapy. The healing process could take up to six months. For treatment of an Achilles injury, please contact Dr. Tejas Pandya at (518) 273-0053.
